After an initial training in pure mathematics, computational biology and visual art, I am currently a visiting scholar at the Grupo de Investigacion en Linguistica Matematica y Computacional of the university of Tarragona, Catalunya. As a scientist I am primarily interested in combinatoric and algorithmic issues raised by bioinformatic questions (modelization and prediction of RNA structure) with a growing interest for linguistics. Aside of my scientific research, I exhibit and lecture as a media artist.
My ongoing aristic work, although not directly related to my research in science, is inspired by the sientific approach by often making reference to scientific protocols, in which the public is actively involved but not always in control of their interactions, contrary to what they might believe or feel during their experience of the work. Unlike in science, when setting the context for an artistic experiment/experience, nothing is to be proved but often simply suggested, allowed, unveiled, in a subjective and sensitive way.
I started a few years ago as a performer to experiment with the cinematic live event. During these performances of « expanded cinema », I explore the mental images of childhood contained in family footage of the 70s and search for new narrative forms in which the spectator sees himself responsible for part of the construction of the narration of the work. The images - sequences of ordinary life taken from super8 amateur films - are composed live via a set of mechanical picture machines and hybrid 16mm projectors connected to a computer. I then extended my research to questions related to language, bodily interaction with a virtual world, game and play, as far as these scenario can witness somehow one's personality and unveil the strategies one has developed in order to become him/herself.
